Morgan’s Adoption Story
When Morgan went to the hospital seeking answers for unexplained pain, she received unexpected news: she was 36 weeks pregnant. She processed this information, did some math in her head, and realized the pregnancy was connected to a traumatic experience she had endured months earlier.
As a self-described solution-oriented person, Morgan’s mind immediately went into problem-solving mode.
“It just became a matter of: ‘How do I get to giving birth?’ and then: ‘How do I make sure the baby safe?’”
Faced with an overwhelming situation, Morgan focused on making the best possible decisions for her baby and herself.
Finding Support
After being admitted to the hospital, Morgan met with a social worker who provided ample support.
“I had every tool given to me at every step in the hospital, and I’m immensely thankful for it, because – I mean, I would have gotten to the probably the same resolution – but I don’t know if it would have happened so seamlessly, and I felt supported through the entire experience,” Morgan explained.
As for the way she chose her adoption agency, the stars seemed to align perfectly.
“It was also kind of kismet, because when the social worker brought Adoptions With Love as an option, I’d actually come across them in research for a friend, who is adopting. It just felt like the universe’s way of saying, ‘This is right.’”
It was more than a feeling. Morgan went on to explain that she also chose Adoptions With Love for their experience and supportive services for birth mothers in her circumstances.
“Having the support that Adoptions With Love offers: The counseling services, the fact that they met with me multiple times, multiple phone calls. Jess [at AWL] is incredible, you know, but that isn’t standard across the board. I think when you’re making a decision like this… I wanted my hand held,” she shared. “It’s a hard decision, but it’s also a crucial decision, and feeling like it was the right decision wouldn’t have been possible otherwise.”
Finding The Perfect Fit
While in the hospital, Morgan met her baby’s adoptive family that she carefully had chosen. This was a part of the adoption experience that took her by surprise.
“I was really on the fence about [choosing a family] just because I had always thought, ‘I don’t want to know where this baby ends up, I just want to know that they’re okay.’ And I realized even in saying that sentence – I needed to meet them.”
In speaking with her Adoptions With Love counselor, Jess, who had a few families in mind, she realized what made one couple perfect for her baby.
The chosen couple are incredible people. They create community where they are, but they also participate in existing communities, and community is something that’s very important to me, and the well-rounded aspects of life,” Morgan explained. “They are both very intelligent, but they also participate in the creative aspects of life and want to be a part of the global community as a whole. They travel and immerse themselves in other cultures, and these are things that were really important to me.
“They’re going to give my child everything that I could ever imagine for a child to have, and that was the peace that I needed with my decision.”
Morgan went on to speak even more to the wonderful characters ofher baby’s adoptive fathers.
“They found out, and within 20 minutes they got a necklace from me with his birthstone and my initial. They thought about me through this process, too, and I think that that speaks to how well they’re going to provide for him,” she shared.
“They’re just compassionate human beings. The three of them are family, and it just felt right, honestly. And not that I would have second guessed my decision – because I wouldn’t have – because it was about his safety, but by meeting the couple, knowing how much they love each other, the way they talk about each other, the way they look at each other… You know when you see a good couple, you know, and that is them. They work together, and they’re not perfect, but they work on it. They actively choose each other, and they actually choose their life together. And I think that is a beautiful example to set for their baby, too.”

The Adoption Plan and Future
Morgan chose to have a closed adoption, but she is comfortable with the idea of that changing in the future. She chose the family and met them, but she does not want ongoing contact at this time.
“I’m at the point where, whatever they want is what I’m comfortable with, because they have given me everything that I needed from this purpose, which is making sure he has the life that he should have.
“The open part is for their benefit. I gave them the medical history that I have, I gave them everything that I could think of, but should something come up and they want to ask me, like, ‘Hey, this medical question about your history,’ I will answer it. If they want to talk once a year, I’m open to it. It’s whatever they want from me because I’ve already gotten everything that I need.”
In addition to medical information, Morgan passed along family recipes, childhood photos, and the full names of her family members, should he ever want to reach out in the future. She also chose to record voice memos explaining her family history, so that he can have a better sense of where he comes from and how deeply he is loved.
As for Morgan’s hopes for his future?
“I hope that he looks at his dad’s, and he knows how loved he is, and that they get to look at him and know that they, they built that person. Biology aside, they built that person.”
While Morgan is not big on advice-giving, she did have a few sage words for expectant/birth mothers considering adoption.
“There are no stupid questions. Ask them all. Jess answered the same question, probably five different times, and I asked it five different ways, because it’s so concerned that I would seem silly for asking it, but the support that you get in making the decision, especially with Adoptions with Love, even if you don’t decide to go through with it, for understanding your options,” Morgan explained.
“My hand was held through the entire process, and that level of support, I don’t think people really understand exists in this process. It’s there, it’s real, it’s all you should do is ask for it.”
As Morgan shared, finding the right adoption agency that can answer your questions and offer the support you need is key to creating an adoption plan. Look for an adoption agency that can offer you one-on-one support and give you the time, respect, and compassion that you deserve.
