How long does it take to adopt a newborn?
Families are approved to receive a baby in their home once their Home Study is complete. The average wait time for adoptive parents following completion of their Home Study is typically between 6 and 24 months. In most instances, after a birthmother has selected the adoptive parent(s) for her baby, the adoptive family will meet the baby following birth and leave the hospital with the baby upon discharge.
