We met our freshman and sophomore year of college and quickly became good friends. Fast forward 14 years, and we’ve been happily married for 6 years with our 5 year old pup Benji!

Carlos is jack of all trades, with a new hobby he gets decent at every year of so, with guitar, drums, saxophone, ukelele, piano, reading, climbing and hiking under his belt and many to go! His constant is his love of cooking. Mackenzie enjoys volunteering for different ministry opportunities and singing! Together they enjoy going out to work at different cafes and walks with Benji near and far.

Mackenzie to Carlos: Carlos cares deeply and shows up consistently for the people he loves. He’s always been so excited about learning new things which explains his many hobbies. He forces me out of my comfort zone while I keep him grounded.

Carlos to Mackenzie: Mackenzie is honest, thoughtful, empathetic, and a great communicator. She’s a person of conviction, who will always sacrifice and fight for what she believes in.

We are very blessed to have a great support system near and far. Mackenzie’s parents and sister are local with her 3 other sisters just a short flight away. Carlos’s family are in TX, and visit Boston once or twice a year. Both sides can’t wait for a new addition, especially Mackenzie’s nieces who already are being taught about adoption.

Mackenzie has always considered adoption, having grown up with an adopted sister, so it felt like a natural path when health issues arose that made biological children a bit riskier. With Mackenzie’s biracial background and our interracial marriage, we’ve always known our family would be beautifully blended.

Carlos can’t wait for legos and games, eventually sharing hobbies of cooking and hikes. Mackenzie can’t wait for lots of singing and visits to grandma and grandpa’s. We look forward to playing in the yard with our kids and Benji and going to local family events together.

We spend Thanksgivings with Mackenzie’s extended family in VA and Christmas with Carlos’ family in TX. We also celebrate Mother’s Day and Father’s day with Mackenzie‘s parents who are about an hour away.

We have been in our condo since we got married, which is close to the main street of our city and local parks. Our downstairs neighbors are wonderful and have 2 little ones of their own.
