• About Us:

Nick is an architect who works for an international design firm that builds around the world. Dariel is an architecture historian and college lecturer who writes about West Africa. We live just outside Boston with our two cats, Izzy and Ollie.

    • Our Story:

We met 15 years ago in architecture school, and were immediately drawn to each others’ warmth and sense of humor. We have been married for over 10 years, and are excited to start a family.

    • Our Hobbies:

We love to travel and explore new cities. We also love to watch NBA basketball, and attend a game in person every year. Dariel likes to cook, paint, and make beaded jewelry. Nick loves trivia, drawing, and airplanes. We go for long walks, host friends for dinner parties, and take weekend trips to New York City or the countryside.

    • Qualities We See In Each Other:

Dariel: Nick is extremely kind and caring. He’s creative, smart, and concerned for others. Nick is very loving and gentle, and radiates a sense of calm and acceptance. He is very responsible and focused, dedicated to the people he loves, understanding and welcoming of others, and would make an incredibly caring and attentive father.

Nick: Dariel is very kind and empathetic. She laughs often, and wears her heart on her sleeve. She loves to share the joy she finds in art, architecture, comedy, science fiction, and animals. Dariel is a great teacher and a dedicated, nurturing mentor. She will be a very loving mother.

    • Our Extended Family:

We have a large, blended family including step-siblings and half-siblings, and lots of cousins. We travel to visit our parents and step-parents once or twice per year, usually around the holidays.

    • Our Adoption Story:

When Nick’s mother remarried, Nick was adopted by his step-father. Growing up with an adoptive father was a wonderful experience. Adoption was always something we considered once we were married. After trying to conceive for five years, we decided that adoption is the best way for us to start a family.

    • Special Activities We Look Forward To Doing With Our Child:

We look forward to everyday life with our child, like getting ready for school in the morning, going to playgrounds, and exploring the outdoors. We will encourage creative expression through art and music, and teach our child to cook. Education is a priority. We will travel with our child, learning about different cultures all over the world. We’ll go to museums and libraries, sporting events, head to the beach in summertime. We look forward to helping our child grow into the person they choose to be, and enjoy our lives together.

    • Holiday Gatherings:

During the holidays we open our home to friends and family. In the fall, we host a large Thanksgiving Dinner, and in the winter, we celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkah with a Christmas tree and a menorah.

    • Our Home + Neighborhood:

We live in an historic suburb of Boston in a two-bedroom condo. There is a large park in close walking distance from our home which includes a dog pond, sledding hill, and jogging trail. There are five playgrounds nearby, as well as the Charles River, where people kayak and sail boats. We live in a diverse community which welcomes everyone.
