We met as graduate students and immediately bonded over our shared love of classic movies. From our first date in 2010, we never looked back! Josh proposed to Nicholas in 2013 in the Boston Public Garden (in the freshly fallen snow), and we started our married life together on a beautiful spring day in 2015.

We always knew we wanted kids one day. We have close friends and family members who have adopted, and we know from their experiences that this adoption journey is the right way for us to expand our family. We’re excited to make an impact in a child’s life, and we know they’ll have just as big an impact on us.

The best thing about our relationship is that we love spending time together. We’re avid moviegoers, and we joke that our favorite sport is the Oscars. We love to travel (recent highlights include San Juan, Barcelona, and Cape Town, South Africa). Nicholas loves X-Men comic books and has an extensive action figure collection. Josh plays violin in a community orchestra and hopes our child will grow up inspired to make music.

After 15 years together, we see each other as our best friends. Nicholas loves that Josh always looks on the bright side, and keeps their relationship steady and balanced. Nicholas knows that Josh will teach our child a love of music, theater, and cooking. For Josh, Nicholas is the biggest champion that he could ask for. He loves that Nicholas is nurturing and empathetic and has so much love to share, and he’s excited to see Nicholas become a father.

Our parents are thrilled to become grandparents! We’re very lucky to have families who are incredibly supportive of our adoption journey.

Josh’s parents Ron and Kathy live in Virginia and can’t wait to host our new family for the holidays. Kathy is already workshopping what “grandma” title feels right. Nicholas’s parents Vicky and Tom live in Ohio and are eager to come visit. Vicky is already collecting children’s books for her future grandchild.

We go all out for the holidays and decorate the entire house for Halloween and Christmas. Each year, we host an Easter brunch and hide eggs for our friends’ kids. For Christmas, we decorate two full-size trees, bake sugar cookies, and hold our annual family viewing of A Charlie Brown Christmas and The Muppet Christmas Carol.

We live outside Boston in a two-family house with a nice backyard where kids can run around. We’re close to everything the city has to offer, while also having the perfect amount of space to raise a family. Our neighborhood has a big playground nearby and several parks within walking distance.
