Meet Ben and Tessa...
Ben is a high school science teacher who works at an arts-based school. Tessa is a stewardship manager for a local land trust. We have been together for ten years and are both awed and excited to take the step from being a family of two to a family of three.
Both of us love adventuring in the great outdoors any way we can- canoeing, hiking, camping, skiing, and skating to name just a few activities. Sharing those times with family and friends makes them twice as fun. We also enjoy board games, swing dancing, cooking, quilting, and playing with our nieces.
Qualities We See in Each Other:
Ben: Tessa is a stunningly kind person who follows her wild ideas to fun conclusions. She doesn’t just listen- she makes sure you know she is listening. She truly understands children, and I can’t wait to see her holding hands with our future child.
Tessa: Ben is generous, thoughtful, patient, and devoted to family and friends. He is there when we need a hug or a laugh, celebration or commiseration. Ben loves learning, both sharing what he knows and discussions with others- his excitement over new ideas is contagious. He is a wonderful partner and will be an excellent dad.
Our Extended Family:
Our families live nearby and are looking forward to surrounding our future child with love. They are very excited to be cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents, to take walks, play at the beach, have sleepovers, and start new traditions.
Special Activities We Look Forward to Doing with Our Child:
We want to explore together. When they are younger, this may mean peering under logs and rocks, building forts in the woods or living room, and telling stories together. As they get older, our explorations will expand outward to larger adventures, driven by their interests as well as our own. We also look forward to celebrating their adoption day every year- taking the time to rejoice in being a family!
Birthdays, Thanksgiving, and Christmas are important times for our extended families to gather together to share a meal and lots of laughter. It is also a tradition in Tessa’s family to visit Downeast Maine and spend time at a summer lake cottage – swimming, hiking, and playing cribbage. We visit our immediate families several times a month.
Our Home & Neighborhood:
Our home has a big backyard that abuts a small mountain. We have a fire pit perfect for outdoor gatherings with friends and family and a large garden that grows all sorts of veggies and flowers. We can walk to the town’s elementary school playground and to the library. When the weather is too blustery to play outside, we can hold a dance party in the kitchen or curl up in the cozy chair upstairs and find adventure through the pages of a book.
There’s lots more to learn about this family!
