Meet Ryan and Jessica:

Contact us about this family!

About us:

We met when Ryan hired Jessica at her first job after college. It was a fantastic coincidence that we got to work together. Ryan’s sense of humor and hilarious antics made each work day that much better! Even after Jessica moved away for graduate school, we stayed in touch and would see each other whenever we could. Although it took about five years and 3000 miles, eventually we realized that we were actually totally in love with one another (it sounds like a movie, right?). When we finally told our friends, they all laughed that it was “about time” we realized what they had known all along.

Ryan proposed at our favorite mountain resort (he even planned a hot air balloon ride). Ryan tells people that Jessica immediately started crying and then laughing hysterically when he proposed, which is true, but only because it was the happiest day and she found it hilarious how hard she was crying. Almost 10 years after we first met, we got married in a beautiful Cape Cod wedding surrounded by our closest family and friends.

Honestly, our marriage came about so easily, and we credit that to the fact that we genuinely enjoy each other's company. A solid foundation of love and friendship has been one of the greatest blessings in our marriage and will continue to be as we bring a child into our family.

Our hobbies:

Ryan: I’m a doctor in a hospital about 20 minutes away from our home. Although my schedule varies some week-to-week, I’m lucky to have many days and evenings off. My work days are often very busy and I never know what to expect when I walk in the door - which I actually enjoy. Most of my colleagues say that I'm very calm under pressure, which can come in handy in our line of work. It’s a privilege to take care of my patients in their greatest time of need. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I can usually be found on the golf course, on the soccer field, or at a new local restaurant cheering on our local sports teams.

Jessica: I plan to be a stay-at-home mom. I think it’s so important that a child has a parent at home as much as possible. Currently, I’m an elementary school teacher which I love because I get to see the world through my students' curious (and very enthusiastic!) eyes. I’m blessed to have families come back to me even years later to thank me for impacting their child's life. I have a lot of experience with children of all needs, backgrounds, and abilities and I can’t wait to bring those skills home to parent my own child. In my spare time, I enjoy yoga, bicycling, cooking, shopping, exploring new places, and hosting friends and family in our home. My guilty pleasures are reading gossip magazines, watching tv crime shows, and I'm a sucker for any good Mexican restaurant!

Qualities we see in each other:

I love Ryan’s sense of humor, his easy-going attitude, and how loyal and generous he is with those he cares about. Ryan has also seen many children on their absolute worst days in the hospital. Despite broken arms and ear infections, his calm demeanor and approachable smile always puts the children at ease. He’ll be an extraordinary father!

Jessica’s strengths are her willingness to always help others and her ability to make everyone she meets feel loved and important. She is going to be an amazing mother. She is the most giving, passionate, and patient person I know. When I see her interact with our nieces and nephews (as well as all of the kids in the neighborhood), it’s incredible how their eyes light up as soon as they see her!

Special activities we look forward to:

Ryan: I envision spending our days doing family activities, playing games in the yard, and scheduling play dates with cousins. I’d love to walk down to the beach with my child, grab ice cream along the way, and hear about their day with their school friends. It’s truly the simple things about being a parent that I look forward to the most. In addition, my parents only live a mile away from us and I’m sure they will be at our house daily to take their grandchild on adventures all around town.

Jessica: Watching our child grow and thrive is going to bring me so much joy. I would love to watch my child bicycling down the driveway, to help my son with his homework, or to teach my daughter to swim and boogie board in the ocean. Whether it’s baking in the kitchen, traveling to new places, or just comforting him or her when they are having a tough day, I’m looking forward to it all!

Extended family & friends:

Family is one of the most important pillars in our lives. Jessica has her parents, two sisters, a brother, and five nieces and nephews (ages 17 to 2), all of whom we visit as often as we can. Ryan’s parents, sister, brother-in-law, niece and nephew (age 5 and 2) all live just a few minutes from us and, at times, we see them several times per week. Some of our fondest memories are birthday parties, holidays, and cookouts together. Our group of nearly a hundred aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and extended family members are thrilled that we are pursuing adoption and are anxiously awaiting this baby whenever he or she wants to join us!

We also have several friends or family members who have adopted children and we are amazed by the love that these families have for one another. Their adoration for their adopted child is this beautiful thing that knows no boundaries. When we see them all together, we are inspired to bring a child into our lives. Our family was meant to be built through adoption and that day can’t come soon enough!

Our home and neighborhood:

We live in a beautiful seaside community with some of the best schools in the state. Our neighborhood is very walkable and limited in car traffic which encourages children to bike in the streets, kids to line up at the ice cream truck, and families to host events in their front yards. Our house is walkable to two beautiful beaches where we meet friends for bonfires, building sandcastles, and fishing along the jetty. We are also walkable to our town center which features many restaurants, a movie theater, our boat club, and tons of family-friendly shops and events. The elementary school, playgrounds, and library are also just a quick bike ride away. Our house has a large, open family room, kitchen, and dining room as well as a second living room that we hope to convert into a kid’s play room. There are several good-sized bedrooms, one of which we have already decorated as a nursery. When we first saw the house, we knew that we had to buy it because we could already see ourselves hosting BBQs on the deck, playing with our children in the yard, and cuddling up on the screened porch for family game nights.
